Answers to Frequently Asked Questions regarding Interlibrary Loans

What is ILLiad?

ILLiad is the electronic system you use to request an item through Interlibrary Loan. The name ILLiad can be thought of as an acronym for InterLibrary Loan internet accessible database.

What happened to the old Request-a-Copy form?

We understand that some of our patrons may have become accustomed to ordering requests through the Request-a-Copy online form. While that form no longer exists, the Request-a-Copy service is still in place. However, these requests should now be submitted through the ILLiad web interface. The request procedure works similarly, and you will now have the ability to check the status of your order and retrieve electronic documents through the web interface as well.

This is my first time using ILLiad. What do I do?

Log in using your UF ID number and ill as the password. The first time you log in you will be required to verify details regarding your contact information and your current UF status.

After you verify your contact information, you will be brought to the billing information screen. If you are planning on using the Request-a-Copy service and you desire for us to bill your department for the five dollar fee, enter your department's name and chartfield string information here. Otherwise, you may proceed to one of the request forms located in the top portion of the main menu.

I have a Smathers ILLiad account. Can I have an account for the Health Science Center Library as well?

You can only be associated with one University of Florida interlibrary loan department at at time. If you choose to use the Health Science Center Library, all future interlibrary loan requests will be filled through the HSC library as well.

If you have used another UF library in the past, and would like to begin submitting your requests through the Health Science Center Library, login into the Health Science Center ILLiad page and choose Change User Info under Tools in the Main Menu. Verify your contact information is complete and press Submit Information.

Can I still use my Loansome Doc account?

If you are using PubMed to find citations you need, we encourage you to use a Loansome Doc account to submit your requests. Depending on the nature of the document, they may be delivered to you through the ILLiad webpage.

I am not affiliated with the University of Florida. Can I order materials through the Health Science Center library?

We do process requests for individuals and businesses outside of the UF community. While the ILLiad service is designed specifically for UF patrons, you can use the Loansome Doc service to order requests. To find more about the Loansome Doc Service and applicable fees, click here.

I am affiliated with the University of Florida. Do I have to pay for requests?

Interlibrary loans are free to you. If you are not a distance education student or employed at a UF site outside of the Gainesville area, there is a $5 fee attached to copy services for materials found within the library. If a fee is applicable, a staff member of our interlibrary loan department will contact you before the request is processed to confirm your consent unless you already indicated otherwise.

I need an item found at another library on campus. Can you get it for me?

Unless you are a distance education student or employed at a site outside of the Gainesville area, we request you go to that library to access the materials. .
