Answers to Frequently Asked Questions about ILLiad

What is ILLiad?

ILLiad is the electronic system you use to request an item through Interlibrary Loan. The name ILLiad can be thought of as an acronym for InterLibrary Loan internet accessible database.

Who is eligible to qualify as a borrowing institution?

The library will lend items or send copies via Interlibrary Loan service only to other libraries, not to individuals or corporations.

How do libraries submit requests?

  1. You will need to fill out the lending form. No faxed or e-mailed requests will be accepted.
  2. If you have never submitted requests to FUG, you will be required to fill out the Vendor Application in addition to the W-9 Form (national) or W-8BEN Form form (international) BEFORE we can fill your request. Please fax the completed forms to 352-392-7598, or e-mail to Lending.

What are the lending charges?

Fees stated in this policy apply only to borrowing institutions that are NOT members of the FLIN, RLG Shared Resources, or ASERL reciprocal/consortial agreements.

Loans: $15 IFM; $15 Invoice

Copies: $15 IFM; $15 Invoice

International Loans: $15 IFM; $15 Invoice (USD)

International Copies: $15 IFM; $15 Invoice (USD)

IFM is the preferred method of payment. Invoices are mailed at the end of the month. Postage stamps, IFLA coupons, or credit cards are not accepted.

What type of materials will not be loaned?

The Interlibrary Loan department is not able to loan the following items:

-microfilm/fiche (case specific)

-Rare or Special Collections (case specific). If we do lend, there will be several conditions that need to be accepted, such as: 1) return item in box; 2) return item via UPS; 3) viewed only in Special Collections reading room.

-Reference or other non-circulating materials

-Audiovisual materials

-Computer software

The U.F. Libraries will make every effort to loan any circulating materials. Under the terms of the RLG Shared Resources agreement, we will extend the lending policy to provide either loan or copy of as much of the non circulating collections as possible to RLG member libraries. The borrowing institution is asked to abide by any designated use restrictions or packaging and insurance requirements.

What happens if an item is overdue, lost or damaged?

Overdue notices are sent to the borrowing library at regular intervals after the due date. If an item is not returned or failure to respond to a RECALL 30 days past the date due, UF will bill for the price of replacement.

If an item is reported lost, UF will bill for the replacement.

If the item is returned damaged, the borrowing institution will be billed for repair cost or replacement as appropriate.

What Web browser should I use?

You need a Web browser that can handle forms, tables, and preferrably Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). We recommend the current versions of either Microsoft Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox.
